Stephanie Sachs (b. 1966, Brooklyn, NY) makes paintings whose multi-layered surfaces seem lit from within, supporting forms both familiar and mysterious that breathe and move. These works command attention from across a room and beckon the eye closer — awakening a state of awareness somewhere beyond the daily mind. Rooted in the understanding that flowers and flora are not backdrop but elders, thousands of years older than us, translating breath, speaking underground, holding the world together.

Sachs studied at Washington University in St. Louis and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Based in Maui, where the quality of light and an uncynical eye have shaped her practice, her work is held in private collections and corporate collections across the United States. She was selected for New American Paintings West Coast Edition and showcases her work at the Four Seasons Resort Maui.
